Unmarried persons purchase property

If two unmarried persons buy property jointly, and both have their names on the deed, what happens to the property when one person dies. Both persons have children.

Unless the two people took the property as joint tenants with rights of survivorship (you would have to look at the deed), because the two people were not married, no tenancy by the entirety was automatically created.  So, the two people are merely co-tenants,and when one dies his half of the property will be distributed according to his estate plan or, if he has no estate plan, according to rules of intestacy.  Hope that helps.
