I have a pending application for Social Security Disability Insurance and while I was waiting I tried to go back to a part time job. The whole thing was a mistake and I had to quit after a few weeks because the pain in my back was just too much so I couldn't do the job. What I need to know is whether, if I ever have to talk to judge like on an appeal for my SSDI will the fact that I tried to work and did work for a while hurt my chances of getting benefits? Thank you.

Work during Social Security Disability application
Probably not. What you are describing is known in the world of Social Security Disability benefits as an 'unsuccessful work attempt.' If anything, judges and Social Security adjudicators are more likely to view this as a positive because it shows that, although you want to work, you are unable. If you tried to work and continued to work for more than three months, that could be a negative for your application because, conversely, it may indicate, at least to some judges and adjudicators that you are able to work and not in need of disability income. If I were you, I would discuss this issue with an experienced Social Security Disability attorney. Good luck.
