I'm a security guard and I have to wear a uniform that my boss provides for us. But my question is shouldn't he have to have the uniform dry-cleaned and pressed? Why should I have to pay for that and what does MA law say about it?

Apparently, Massachusetts law only requires your employer to pay those costs if they reduce your actual hourly rate below the minimun wage. Also, as the following language from 455 Code of Massachusetts Regulations 2.01 and 2.04 indicates, if your uniform can be cleaned at home, your employer is compeletly off the hook:
"Where uniforms require dry-cleaning, commercial laundering, or other special treatment, the employee shall be reimbursed for the actual costs of such service to the extent that these costs reduce the employee's hourly rate below the basic minimum wage. Where uniforms are made of "wash and wear" materials, that do not require special treatment, and that are routinely washed and dried with other personal garments, the employer need not reimburse the employee for uniform maintenance costs."
Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum.
