I'm a little convused about the waiting period to make my Social Security disability claim. I talked to a lady on the phone about how to do it and she told me I can't get SSDI if my or disability is not going to last a year so do I have to wait till the year is over or not?

No, you do not have to wait and should, in fact, apply for SSDI benefits as soon as you become disabled. When your application is later approved, you will receive benefits retroactively, starting on the sixth full month after your disability began. (Because of the mandatory five month waiting period for SSDI, nobody gets benefits for those first five months). Follow this link to an explanation of how the SSA calculates the period of time for which an applicant may be entitled to SSDI back pay. Good luck.
