My husband and I are having a 'disagreement' about using high beam lights on the road when we're driving. He says it's inconsiderate but not illegal to use the high-beams in traffic. I say it has to be illegal because I've been on the other side of the equation when someone is using the high beams and I can't see anything. What say you?

High Beams
You are correct, failing to dim your highbeams when there is a vehicle approaching is a traffic violation. I can't find a public link to the law, but the citation is 540 CMR 22.05(2) "Whenever there is sufficient light within the traveled portion of the highway to make clearly visible all substantial objects for a distance of 350 feet, and whenever the operator of a vehicle approaches an oncoming vehicle within 500 feet, the operator shall regulate the headlamps so that no dangerous or dazzling light shall rise to a height greater than 42 inches above a surface of uniform grade, when measured 75 feet or more ahead of the lamps."

failure to dim high beams
I say you're right. 540 CMR 22.05 requires motorists to dim their high beams when on-coming traffic approaches. The fine is $35.00.
