I was working both a full-time and part-time job when I was laid off from my full-time job and began collecting UI benefits. The part-time job was becoming more and more "hostile" i.e, managers bullying us to buy items to increase the nightly sales or to apply for credit cards so they would not be "beat up" by district managers. If you didn't buy anything or apply for credit cards they would give dirty looks and threaten to cut hours. The store was completely filthy and when discussing it with managers you were to "deal with it". One Sunday when I was working in the wardrobing area(dressing room) I was picking up clothes left for us to put back out on the floor and there was a bowel movement. I told the manager the condition of the dressing room and was told that there were latex gloves. I refused to clean. went to break and didn't return. I have now been disqualified from receiving my UI benefits. How can leaving that part-time job disqualify me if my claim was against my full time job that i was laid off from. I believe my situation was "good cause" for leaving. How do I go about winning at an appeals hearing and getting the disqualification reversed.

Hi Stefanie. Your written Notice of Disqualification contained information on how to request a hearing. You must complete the form (at the bottom of your Notice), indicate you wish to appeal, and return it by mail, fax, or in person. Don't delay because your request for hearing must be filed within ten days of the mailing date of the Notice of Disqualification. (If this answer does not make sense to you, call the local DUA office for help.) Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum.
Unemployment Issues
Thanks for the quick response. I did mail in the request for hearing about 3 weeks go and am waiting for my date. Based on the information left in my original post, do all the reasons leading up to me leaving constitute "good cause"? This is awful I have not received a UI check in 8 weeks and have been looking for suitable work everyday!
