Unemployment compensation for Contract/Temp workers

Since January I have been working at a company as a contractor (as opposed to company employee) with all regular withholdings taken from my payroll by the staffing agency. This morning, three days into a new quarter/fiscal year and 3.5 hours before being expected to report for my shift, I was informed by the staffing agency that my contract, which had apparently expired Friday, had not been renewed. Does this impact my eligibility for unemployment compensation?

Editor's Response

This is an issue (whether an employee of an agency or a contract employee can collect unemployment benefits) that is complicated and beyond my experience.  However, I found this article online that may be of some assistance.

Also, you can contact the Office of Labor and Workforce Development at 617-626-6800 and request information on your eligibility.  Good luck.
