SSDI and VA compensation benefits at the same time?

I'm currently receiving Veterans Administration Compensation Benefits. Is it possible to also get SSDI at the same time? Thank you.

SSDI and VA benefits

As long as we are talking about the same things, and have our terminology in order, the answer to your question is yes.  Disabled persons can, simultaneously, collect Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and VA Compensation Benefits.  On the other hand, if a person who is collecting a VA pension attempt to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the answer may be different.  That is so because, unlike SSDI, SSI is a needs based program

As an aside for anyone in a similar situation, if you are already receiving VA Compensation Benefits, that may be relevant in your application for SSDI, but it is not dispositive.  In other words, the two programs are independent:  The SSA is not bound by the VA's decision regarding the disabled status of an individual and the VA is not bound by the SSA's decision.  Hope that helps.
