Social Security Disability and Bankruptcy

I collect a Social Security Disability Payment. I think I need to file bankruptcy, but was wondering if that payment must be counted as income on my bankruptcy filing.

Editor's Response

Yes. SSDI payments are are "income" for bankruptcy purposes and must be reported on a bankruptcy petition. However, for purposes of calculating the means test (required to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy), you do not have to include Social Security payments.
