Are landlords in Arlington, MA allowed to include a requirement in the rental contract that tenants share responsibility with the landlord for snow removal from all shared and common exterior surfaces and entrances/exits (driveway, front and back steps, back porch, sidewalk)?

There is nothing illegal about the arrangement. In fact, landlords in MA have limited responsibility when it comes to snow removal. Follow the link for more info. Essentially, under Massachusetts law, the landlord is only required to remove snow from doorways, so tenants can get out. Check with local Arlington officials for information about any town ordinances on this subject.
