I'm six months into a one year lease with one other roommate. My roommate decided that she wanted to break her lease in order to move in with her boyfriend. She's currently out, but still paying rent while I attempt to find a replacement - i.e. a friend/acquaintance that will move in. I REALLY don't want to be in a situation where I am stuck living with a new roommate who I don't know. I've done this in the past with bad outcomes. If I'm unable to work something out with someone that I know/am comfortable with, can my current roommate just find a replacement on her own? Can I refuse to sign a new lease with a new tenant that I don't "agree with", ultimately forcing my current roommate to just continue to pay rent through the end of the lease agreement? Do I even have any rights in this situation, or can she just do whatever she needs to fill her spot?
Thanks in advance for your help!
