My brother has not had an easy life and he is also not the brightest guy in the world. He's been collecting disability from Social Security for a while now. SSDI I'm pretty sure. The thing is he's working for his buddy doing construction and really I don't know if he's disabled anymore. But if he lost his disability he would not even be able to pay rent and would probably end up homeless. Would the SSA take away his disability even if it would mean he has to live on the street?

Fraud and SSDI

As you may know, when considering whether a person is entitled to collect SSDI, or to continue receiving it,  the Social Security Administration considers the work history of the person and whether they are, in fact, disabled.  How a denial of benefits (or, in this case, a revocation of benefits) will impact the person's housing situation is not relevant.  SSI, on the other hand is a needs based program.  In any case, if your brother is violating the rules regarding working while on  SSDI, then he may have his benefits revoked. However, if you follow the above link, you will see that recipients of SSDI can work under certain conditions.  So, perhaps, your brother is within the guidelines and in no danger of landing on the street.  Good luck.
