I bought a car last week from a guy in Revere for $6,900 and I paid cash. The car seemed to be in good shape and only had around 80,000 miles on it. But a few days after I brought it home I tried to get a sticker and it failed. It needs work on the brakes that the mechanic says is gonna cost me $520 to do. So I called the guy in Revere and he says it isn't his problem. I told him I thought I could return the car because of the Massachusetts Lemon Law and because the car failed inspection but he said no way. He says the brakes are fine and that I should stop calling him. So can I return the car or not?

lemon aid law in MA
You can follow this link to a post about returning a used car under the MA lemon law. But the short answer is that the guy from Revere is right. I gather from your question that the car failed the safety inspection because of brakes. So far so good for you. However, under MA General Laws Chapter 90, Section 7N, you can only return the vehicle if the required repair will cost at least 10% of the purchase price. So, in your case, you are out of luck. Good luck with the car.
