Retrieving personal belongings after resigning

After three weeks of medical leave due to work-related stress, I resigned. The employer is demanding a "fit for duty" form and refuses to speak to me so I can make plans to retrieve my (expensive) equipment from my office. My doctor has indicated on the "fit for duty" form that I am unable to perform my primary work tasks. Can they actually prevent me from picking up my stuff (about a truckload's worth) now that I have resigned? I was just trying to NOT stay on FMLA and take advantage when it became clear to me and my medical provider that returning was not in my best interest.

Employee's property

If it is your personal property, you are entitled to retrieve it at some agreed upon time.  If the employer refuses, you can send a demand letter then sue the employer in small claims court.  You might also pay an attorney to send a demand letter.  I don't know the value of your belongings, but often a letter on an attorney's letterhead gets fast results.  Good luck.
