I have been renting a room in a house owner-occupied for 2 years. First, Last & Security were collected and I have been paying rent monthly without ever being late. The owner of the house frequently goes into my room without asking, when I am not at home. He stopped giving me receipts over a year ago, and refuses to accept anything but cash. My hours are cut, I can't afford to move (or I would have a year ago when the problems started!) and now is starting to change the agreement we had when I moved in. Off-street parking was included, but then he bought a boat and now I'm not allowed to park in the drive anymore. (Guess I know what $600 a month can buy.) The state will ban street parking soon, and I am wondering what I can do, what my rights are.
I already know the lack of receipts, lack of interest on my deposits, lack of a LOCK on my door and his refusal to turn the heat on to my room until December are all against the law... I just can't afford to move now that my pay has been cut and the rental market is too high.
