I have been working with a corporate company for several years now at a steady 35+ hours weekly. Recently, they have cut back my, and all other "full-time" employee, hours to between 30-34/week and hired several new people as "part-time." It has been said that this company (a big-name retail pharmacy) considers its employees full-time at 30 hours weekly. Are they actually allowed to do that? If I was receiving between 35-40 hours consistently and within the last two months have been cut to an average of 32 hours per week would I be able to claim partial unemployment? Thank you.

Massachusetts workers who have lost hours may, in fact, be eligible to claim unemployment Insurance benefits. Generally speaking, however, you must have your hours reduced by at least 1/3 to receive a benefit. Because of that, it seems unlikely that you would qualify for benefits.
