I lived in a house for just under 2 yrs, I always paid rent on time if not early, I was not evicted. We paid a security deposit in the amount of $1,000. We emailed the landlord our 30 day notice. she was not happy about us leaving. We moved out and cleaned up the house, Left no damage. We have not received our deposit back or any letter explaining why she kept it. It was never put into an interest bearing account that we were notified of. What do I do to get it back???

Security deposit in MA

You may want to start by sending a 93A demand letter, as failure to return a security deposit often constitutes a violation of the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act.  Beyond that, you will need to bring suit in District or Housing Court to recover the money.  Follow this link for more information about recovering your security deposit.
