Providing false name or identity to police officer in MA

This is kind of a theoretical question. I have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on an assault and battery case. So if I was arrested for something else and I gave the police a fake ID or gave them a false name and I get caught, what would the penalty be?

False Name or ID

Your post raises a number of issues. 1) You should turn yourself in immediately on the warrant. This may be accomplished by appearing at the district court the warrant was issued from. Your chances of being released on bail increase substantially if you walk in the front door, rather than be arrested by the police. You should also bring an attorney with you to demonstrate your appreciation of the seriousness of the charges and your willingness to appear on those charges. 2) If the warrant is for Assault & Battery, a misdemeanor, the consequences of not appearing may be far worse than what you would face for the original charge. 3) Giving a false name or fake ID to a police officer is never a good idea. The act itself is a felony, and depending on how the police charge you, you could face up to 10 years in prison. The police will figure out your true identity when they fingerprint you and when they do so you will be held on a high bail while you await trial on the assault and battery charge.
