A bank posted a job opportunity internally. Interviews were conducted and an individual hired for the job. The person was scheduled for the new work beginning with traing and also required to fill in other positions not hired for. This person accepted the position and met the schedule. However when the person approached hr for the pay rate for the position the person was stalled. She was told first she was hired for the original job atbincreased pay (prior to promotion) then told there is no salary guide for the new position then referred outside hr to a vp to negotiate. The. Bank has no intention of paying for rate for the promtion. Meanwhile the person is expected to show up as scheduled. No contract was signed. What rights do the employee have? Is the bank violating any code? Thank you in advance.

Change in job without pay increase
If I read your question correctly, I would say your options are to stay with the new job at the same pay, negotiate your way back to the old job with the same pay, negotiate for higher pay in the new job, or quit. As you will know from reading other posts on this forum, at-will employees can be fired for any legal reason. An employer in Massachusetts is free to require an employee to change jobs or face termination, again, for any legal non-discriminatory reason. It seems to me, however, that you are valued employee. Why else would they offer you a different job that appears to be a promotion? Perhaps a bit of level-headed persistence and negotiation will get you an increase in pay. Good luck.
