I used to work at a "store" that was about ten minutes from my home. When that store closed I lost the job and my manager said if I wanted to work I would have to go to another branch located about an hour from my home. But they aren't going to pay me for the extra commute expense or pay me for the time I'm commuting. Is that legal in Massachusetts?

Editor's Response

Unless you have a contract that requires such payment, or there is some provision in your employee handbook that requires such payment, you are out of luck.  I'll assume you are an at will employee, so your employer was under no obligation to allow you to work at the second location.  However, like everyone else who has to commute to work, you have to do it on your own time and at your expense.  Sorry.
