Unauthorized pay check deductions

You can follow this link to a post dealing with the legality of unauthorized paycheck deductions in MA.  After a recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (Camara v. Attorney General, SJC 10693 (2011), which is discussed in the post  I linked to, I would guess that the answer to your question will come down to whether your employer can demonstrate a valid set-off.  For example, if your employer can show that the merchandise constitutes an undisputed loan or wage advance, then they are within their rights.
