I'm named as the executor of my uncle's estate but have not done anything with it yet. He mostly just has a collection of personal property. My question is how do I find out who he owes money to since my understanding is the estate is supposed to pay existing debts? I assume I have to some how notify the creditors of the estate, right?

Notify estate creditors
Yes. Once you are officially appointed by the probate court, the court will provide a notice for you to publish in the local news paper. You are not under any obligation to hunt the creditors down and give them notice. You don't give much detail, but depending on the size of the estate, you may want to look into the Voluntary Administration process. Good luck.
