I am a 52 year old male and have worked for the same company for 31yrs as a system’s Engineer up until about a year ago. I have depression, Anxiety and panic disorder, which I have been battling for 10+ years. The last three years it has become unbearable for me, so I turned to self medicating with alcohol. In that time I have had at least 7 hospital stays for depression and detox, plus I have had two suicide attempts. I lost my job because I just could not perform on a daily basis. I have seen the same Psychiatrist for 10 years now. He suggested I apply for SSDI because this condition has progressed over the years. I also went to jail in the last year for about 4 months. I have not used alcohol for the last 8 months now and know that is a dead end. I would love to work again at some point if I can just get better, but it’s so hard right now. I have so much depression and anxiety it’s hard to even go shopping to buy food with all the people around. Just wondering if I would be able to get SSDI until I can get back on my feet at some point in the future. Right now I cant even think about working, just trying to get better with the help of my Psychiatrist and therapist…Thank you

SSDI for psychiatric conditions
Sorry about your situation. It is possible to get SSDI as a result of psychiatric conditions. However, a prediction from someone who does not practice in this area of the law (like me) will not do you any good. You need to sit down with a MA disability attorney and discuss your situation. Most Social Security disability attorneys offer a free consultation. The attorney will be able to evaluate your claim and give you a better idea of whether you should pursue the SSDI claim and, if so, how. Good luck.
