My girlfriend and I just had a baby and are now figuring out that the boy is going to take a lot of our money. So now I'm wondering if I can modify my child support obligations to my ex wife because I'm finding it hard to make the payments I owe her and keep up with expenses at home. I also lost some of my hours at work and that hurts right now too. I've been told that there is some law in MA that allows you to change your child support payments if you have another child. Is that so?

Modify child support order
No, there is no such law. When you experience material changes is in your financial situation, it is possible that the family court will grant a motion for modification of your child support obligations, but there is no guarantee that you will succeed. The fact that you have lost hours at work and, presumably, are now making less money may be an important factor for the court to consider.
