Over the weekend a friend and i were arrested for minor in possession of alcohol. Neither one of us were driving, we were drinking a singular beer outside of a concert venue. We were arrested and the car was subsequently searched. I am a student in good standing at a highly accredited university with intentions of going to grad school, i have no prior record. I was wondering if there is anyway i could keep this off of my record seeing as this would really mess things up in my future. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Look, there is nothing I would recommend that you do ON YOU OWN to clear this up. As you know, the stakes are too high. If I were in your shoes, I would get some recommendations for a criminal law attorney with experience practicing in the court where your case will be heard. You need someone who knows the system and the prosecutors, not to gain an unfair or illegal advantage, but so she can do everything in her power to resolve this matter in a way that is least likely to adversely impact your future. Good luck.
Minor in Posession
I agree, a lawyer can be very helpful with this type of case. Look for a lawyer who practices in that court regularly. You also may want to ask if the court has a "diversion" program. With diversion the prosecution would agree to drop the charges before they appear on your record in exchange for the payment of a fee, attendance at a class and staying out of trouble for a period of time. Every court is different and a diversion program may be offered or not offered in the discretion of the prosecutor, however, a lawyer who practices regularly in the court will be able to better assist you with your options.
