Massachusetts circuit breaker tax credit

I'm pretty sure I qualify for the Massachusetts circuit breaker tax credit. I'm a renter in in MA and my rent takes up a sufficient percentage of my income to qualify for the tax credit (I don't really have any taxable income). But I also don't think I need to file taxes this year. So is there any way to get the tax credit even though I don't file? Thanks.

Circuit breaker tax credit in MA

Yes there is.  In some cases, a person may qualify for the MA circuit breaker tax credit even though, because of low income or other reason, they are not required to file taxes.  Follow the link above for more information about qualifying for the credit.  Renters can collect a check for the credit from the state if their water, sewer, and 25% of the rent, all totaled, equal more than 10% of their income for the year.  To qualify all you have to do is file a state tax return and include a Schedule CB with the return.  Hope that helps.
