I am trying to start a process serving business but I dont really know the laws to well. I get that any disinterested person can serve legal papers in Massachusetts(Rule 4c) from MA laws of civil procedure. I called my town hall and they told me a person needs to be a constable in Massachusetts to serve legal document. Then I talked to a person who claims to be a process server in Mass and he said I dont need to do anything and if I want to be a process server I can just start. It seems like both of these are wrong, but I don't know. It seems like their must be something that I have to do like get a lisence of some sort or get certified? I dont think that only a constable can serve papers either because their are process servers everywhere and if you needed to be a constable than what are these process servers doing? Well, if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. I have done tons of research and its like I'm just going in a circle but I'm not getting the answers I need. Thanks!
