Yes, your understanding of the law is correct. Driving under the influence is a separate and serious criminal offense. And if you are caught with more than one once, you are in a whole different world of trouble.
Also, local towns and cities are still able to adopt and enforce laws prohibiting the public use of marijuana. Chapter 387 specifically states that municipalities are free to pass "ordinances or bylaws regulating or prohibiting the consumption of marijuana . . . in public places and providing for additional penalties for public use . . ."
