I sent in my appeal paperwork for my SSDI claim several weeks ago and they say they still don't have it. I called the office last week and they say they never got it. What should I do in this case? I did make copies of all the paperwork I sent. I still have twenty days or so to file the appeal, so I guess just send it in again?

Yes, send it in again. It sounds like you are doing everything you can and should do to follow up on this issue. Your experience is a valuable lesson for our readers who are approaching the reconsideration or appeals process. As you know, applicants have only only sixty days to file for SSDI reconsideration and/or an appeal. Although their is some discretion involved, the SSA will typically only accept late appeals for "Good Cause," such as never receiving a notice of denial or severe illness.
Here are the steps I would consider when sending in paperwork for a reconsideration, appeal, or when the initial mailing has been lost: (1) Make copies of all documentation; (2) Pay the extra money for a Certificate of Mailing when you send the paperwork in. This document is not conclusive but it does offer some proof that you sent something to the SSA office on a specified date; and (3) As you did, call the SSA office after a week or so to verify they received your paperwork. Good luck.
