Can someone who is injured in a negligence case get damages for loss of enjoyment of his life. Sort of like if he is no longer able to do things that he used to do because of a badly damaged knee?

You are asking about hedonic damages. In Massachusetts, I don't think such damages are usually allowed in a personal injury case, at least not by that name. However, that does not mean that you are not entitled to a variety of damages for the injury you suffered. A court might, for example, allow a person in your situation to recover 'general damages' or damages for 'pain and suffering.' Follow this link to a thread discussing the types of damages allowed in Massachusetts personal injury cases.
In any case, your attorney, someone with a lot more experience in this area of law than I have, should be able to give you an answer that is specific to your situation. Good luck. For more information, visit our Massachusetts Personal Injury Discussion Forum.
