Can you direct me to the actual laws about guns? Google doesn't actually solve all problems - some times you just get too many unrelated results. I was wondering if you are able to replace the stock of a shotgun with a pistol grip - for example.

Not really my specialty. However, if you have not seen it, the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Library has a good collection of MA laws re guns. While there, you should check out 501 CMR 7. These are Massachusetts regulations regarding the Approved Weapon Rosters. Again, not my specialty, but I will guess that modified weapons of the type you describe will not be on the Roster.
