I like the health club that is closest to my home but I'm wondering about the contract because it's for 24 months and that seems kind of long. Doesn't Massachusetts law limit the length of health club contracts to 12 months?

No. Actually, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 93, Section 80 limits such contracts to 36 months. Makes you wonder what kind of contracts the health clubs used to offer if the legislature saw fit to limit them to 36 months. Apparently some health clubs were selling "lifetime memberships." The first line of Section 80 states that: "No contract for health club services shall be for a term measured by the life of the buyer." Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum.
