My niece was recently treated for a blood clot in her leg. She seems fine now, but she is only 28 and had been taking Yaz for PMS issues. I read an article about this and was wondering if this is a hot legal issue right now, whether there is some negligence involved and whether she should talk to a lawyer. Are people in Massachusetts involved in law suits over Yaz or Yasmin? Thank you.

Yes, there is currently quite a bit of litigation dealing with Yaz and/or Yasmin and women who have suffered gallbladder damage, blood clots and/or strokes. Yaz is manufactured by Bayer and contains a synthetic hormone known as drospirenone. The law suits seem to focus on allegedly misleading claims by the manufacturer and a perceived failure to adequately warn of certain risks. Your niece may want to discuss her case with a MA medical malpractice attorney to discuss her injury and whether she wants to pursue legal action. I hope she is feeling better.
