The law in Massachusetts prohibits your employer from making you work more than 6 hours without a lunch break of at least thirty minutes. The law does not require paid lunch breaks, however. I suppose you could argue that if you are eating and, fifteen minutes into the lunch, you are required to help with a patient then you should be entitled to start the 30 minute period over again, so you have the compete, legally required break. (The language Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 149, Section 100 specifies an "interval of at least thirty minutes.") At a minimum, when the emergency is over, you should be able to enjoy the remaining 15 minutes of your break.
