It can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to get a decision from the Social Security Administration (SSA). If you are denied benefits or are otherwise dissatisfied with the SSA’s decision, you can appeal the decision by filing a request for reconsideration. (If your benefits are denied, you should appeal the denial rather than start a new application.) If upon reconsideration your claim is denied again, then you should request a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge. Unfortunately, it can take up to 2 years to have a judge assigned to your claim.
