Has Massachusetts placed a moratorium on foreclosures?

My wife and I got into some financial trouble when she lost her job last year. Based on different stories I've read I'm confused now about the news stories about foreclosures and was wondering if Massachusetts has initiated a moratorium on foreclosures. I'm considering bankruptcy right now but I'm thinking I can wait on that if a moratorium is in place. Thanks for any help.

Foreclosure Moratorium

As of this date (October 18, 2010) Massachusetts has no such moratorium in place.  In august, an amendment to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 244, Section 35A that provides the homeowner with a 150 day a right to cure if certain conditions are met did become effective.  (The old law provided a 90 day right to cure.)  However, I cannot emphasize enough that you should not stick your head in the sand and wait for things to get better or wait for a moratorium.  You need to talk to a certified debt counselor or a bankruptcy attorney to figure out: (1) if you should try to keep the home or not (it's not always the best thing to do), and (2) if yes, what steps you should take now and in the future to protect your home.  Good luck.
