My mom works for a large insurance company and has announced that she would like to retire later this year. Since this she has noticed that they are checking her work more often and reviewing her calls. All of this has caused her to be more self conscious and cause her to make mistakes which has led to being on a warning. She is very upset and feels targeted by them. The only reason she is still working is for the health insurance. I worry about the stress they are putting on her, she’s having trouble sleeping and concentrating. Is there anyway for her to negotiate the insurance and just leave the company? When she wanted to retire before they raised the minimum years with the company to get insurance, she was very close to being eligible at the time. Also last year she felt she and some other older coworkers were being targeted because of age and let HR know in the form of a letter. After that they seemed to back off and let her do her job and now it’s back again. Any advice would be great . Thank you

Possible harrasment
Sorry about your mom's situation. It certainly sounds suspicious. However, like so many other questions posted on these forums, answers are difficult to come by until your mom talks to an employment law attorney and describes IN DETAIL what is going on at her place of employment. It simply cannot be done in this setting. The attorney will want to discuss the matter thoroughly and review any and all documentation relevant to the matter (emails, contracts, letters, written warnings, etc.). If the attorney believes there is a discernible pattern of harassment then, yes, your mother may have several remedies available to her, including a negotiated departure. Good luck.
