My roommates and I are having trouble deciding where the security deposit should go once we have received the check from our landlord because two of the original four roomates that lived in our apartment when the deposit was paid have now been signed off of the lease. When the were signed off of the lease the new tennats were not made to pay the security deposit, however did the old tennants forfeit their rights to the security deposit by signing new tennants on for them selves? Or are we/ the landlord responsible for getting a hold of them to give them the check? Please help we are very unsure of the process that should be followed. Thank you!
