My mother passed away several weeks ago and so far we've been unable to find her will (my sister and myself are the only surviving relatives). I know the name of the attorney who she said she used to draft her will but I can't find him anywhere in the phone book or on the Internet. Any idea how to locate him? I'm hoping he has a copy of the will. Thanks you very much

Lost Will and Attorney
The Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers has a website that provides contact information for every attorney in the state. You might want to give it a try: http://massbbo.org/bbolookup.php
If the attorney is not on the list, you might have to do some investigation. Most attorney's understand the obligation to maintain client files, and so as retirement approaches it is not uncommon for the retiring attorney to transfer the files to another attorney or law firm. If you cannot find the Will, there is no need to despair. Given that there are only two competent beneficiaries, then you can probate the estate without the Will. In fact, under the right circumstances it can be pretty much the same process whether you find the Will or not. There have been many postings on this site about the administration of an estate that you can reference to better understand the process. Good Luck.
