I got denied on my SSDI claim so now I'm wondering what I should do next. I know I can file an appeal but I was wondering if I should just file a new claim if it might be faster than the appeal if I get lucky and get an examiner who agrees I'm disabled. Does that make any sense?

Appeal or file new SSDI claim

No, it does not. If you do not appeal your denial of SSDI in a timely manner (60 days) or if you file a new claim, you lose your right to appeal and must start over at the very beginning. As you now know, that process can take some time.  You have a better chance of winning on appeal then you do if you simply file a new claim, which will likely be rejected for the exact same reasons as your first claim. At this stage, you should contact a MA disability attorney and let her help you formulate your appeal.  Good luck.

(Also, I, in discussing the appeals process I want to be clear on my terminology, so let me add this:  When an initial application for SSDI benefits is rejected, the first step is to request a reconsideration.  This is a required step in the appeals process.  You can contact you local SSA office to begin the reconsideration.)
