I came out of my daughter's day care last seek and found a huge scrape on the side of my car, put there by some idiot who did not leave her information. Another woman in the lot saw the whole thing and got a license plate for me and a description of the vehicle. My question is should I go to the police and get them involved? I do not want to have to pay the deductible on this one. The witness says she will gladly testify if I need her because she is very upset by the driver just taking off without leaving her information. Thanks for your help.

Leaving scene of accident
I would start by contacting your insurance company and providing all the information you have, including the name and telephone number of the witness. The insurance company may deal with the issue for you. Press your insurer to find out how they want you to proceed. If they are not willing to pursue the matter on your behalf, you need to get that information quickly so you can take steps to protect yourself from having to pay the deductible. In that case, I would certainly go to the police station in the town where the accident occurred and swear out a complaint. Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in Massachusetts. The information you gain during the prosecution (or even the investigation) of that crime (primarily the identity of the other driver) will certainly help you avoid the deductible. Good luck.
