Do I pay taxes on child support and alimony?

Last year was my first year of being divorced and receiving child support and alimony from my ex. I'm trying to do my taxes and I wonder if you could confirm for me that child support is not taxable (I don't have to pay taxes on it) but my alimony is? Is that correct? It's a fairly substantial sum so I need to get it right. Thanks for your help.

taxation of child support or alimony

Yes, the person receiving alimony, you, must claim it as income in the year you receive it.  Not that you likely care, but your ex spouse can deduct the payments in the year they were made.  You are also correct about the support payments.  Child support payments are tax neutral, meaning there is no taxable income for you and no deduction for your ex.  Good luck with your tax forms.
