Editor's Response
Not to court, but if you file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will have to attend a section 341 meeting (for creditors). Usually, no creditors show up and the only persons in attendance will be you, your attorney, and the appointed bankruptcy trustee. The 341 meeting is not held at the court, and you will be notified where the meeting will be held. In Massachusetts, there is a bankruptcy court in Boston, Springfield, and in Worcester, but sometimes the trustees will hold 341 meetings in Brockton, Springfield, or Pittsfield).
Here is some contact information:

Worcester:

341 meeting
You do not have to go to Court. The Editor is correct in that you have to attend a §341 meeting, also I agree with the editor about what happens at the meeting. However, the meetings are not held in the Courthouse and the judge is NOT permitted to go to the meetings. It is unusual that an individual debtor will have to go to the Court. There is also a Bankruptcy Court now in Springfield. Good luck. Attorney Robert Kovacs
