I have a townhouse condo with a single entrance. We have roofing and gutter work going on. The workers completely wrapped my condo with a tarp while my wife and children were inside and would not let them out until I came home and cut them out (my son missed a Dr. appt.) They apologized and said it would never happen again. Next time they blocked my front door with a ladder while we were inside and the back door was blocked by snow. This was all done without telling us they were locking us in. I told the workers to move the ladder off my stairs and called the police. I sent an email complaint to our management company and was sent a letter from a lawyer telling me I to cease and desist along with a bill for the letter. Is there anything I can do to protect my family? -- (Posted by Condofedup on the Forum.)
The following response was posted by Attorney Lisa Sigman: My initial response upon reading your post was shock. Please contact an attorney immediately, and do not pay that legal bill until you consult with your own attorney. At the very least, if the facts as you report them are true, it seems that you have been falsely imprisoned by the company doing the work and harassed by your management company through their attorney. Again, I say this based on the facts as you present them.
