I was invited to a party on the beach in South Boston about a month ago. There was alcohol and drinking present, though myself and a good number of the people there did not drink (nor were we aware that there would be alcohol there). At the end of the evening an officer pulled up and asked for everyone's ID. Every person there handed it to him without complaint, everybody present was over 21. The officer informed us that we would be hearing form the South Boston court system, and I just figured he was trying to scare us into leaving.
I just received a summons to a magistrate hearing, and am now a little freaked out about. The summons is for "Disorderly / Public Drinking," offense code 272-53.
I have never in my life touched alcohol (religion), and I feel that I cooperated with the officer as much as was possible. I am a long time working student, and hiring a lawyer for something like this could potentially break the bank. I had intended to show up to the hearing and just tell the truth about the situation, but I really have no idea what I should be doing, or if something like this requires a lawyer. Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks
