Are there any diseases or disabilities that automatically qualify for SSI or SSDI? I'm thinking of something like cancer where it is clear that the person will be disabled. I guess I'm more interested in SSDI. Thanks.

No. As you may know, for both SSI and SSDI there is a process that all applicant's must go through. And, of course, to qualify for SSDI, a person must have a sufficient work history. However, the Social Security Administration does have something known as the 'compassionate allowance' program. The SSA defines compassionate allowances as "a way of quickly identifying diseases and other medical conditions that invariably qualify under the Listing of Impairments based on minimal objective medical information. Compassionate allowances allow Social Security to quickly target the most obviously disabled individuals for allowances based on objective medical information that we can obtain quickly" So, for example, someone with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease would qualify for an expedited approval.
