Company owner hacked into an employees Facebook account

She did NOT have permission to go in this Facebook page. She found a private message posted by me and used this to fire me. She says that I was spreading rumors about herself and a male coworker, which I did NOT do. I never said that they were having an affair. I don't know what was going on with the two of them but every single person in this small business knew something was happening and it was affecting the way that the business was being run. It was not my business if anything was going on except that I was the assistant manager and everyone was complaining to me about it. Was it illegal for my former employer to hack into that Facebook page?
