I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if I would just be wasting time and money...here is the deal:
I own property in my town. There is a drainage basin that the town has neglected to maintain for over 3 years now. I have been down to town hall with photos of water flooding the area in a corner of my property. It turns into a small pond and stands for weeks at a time.
During the storms of late March, the water continued to back up and eventually worked its way into my basement and reached a level of 4 feet deep.
I do not have flood insurance unfortunately, and as a result of the water not being able to drain...I have had to throw out a substantial amount of property...and lost both my washer and drier to the flood. The water was literally a river running through my basement.
I am considering a suit against the town for their negligence in maintaining adequate drainage...hoping that they will cover my losses and repair the mold that will eventually grow in my basement due to this.
Any thoughts or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
