I live in Massachusetts and recently divorced my husband and am in the process of changing my name back to my maiden name. I think I've contacted all the state offices that may be important but was wondering about the federal gov. Should I contact the IRS, for example?

I think you actually want to contact the Social Security Administration, because the IRS uses that data base when processing returns. You can get a Form SS-5 (Application for Social Security Card) by calling the SSA at 800-772-1213. You can also visit the SSA's web site at www.socialsecurity.gov. Good luck.
