I just found out throw another employee that one of our benefits had changed. Many employees are upset over this issue because we now have to pay for the benefit that was supposed to be given to us after working for the company for 3yrs. Can an employer change a benefit and not inform employees of it.

Employer cutting benefits

Assuming you are an at-will employee with no contract (personal or union), under Massachusetts law employers are free to fire you or change the terms of your employment for any non-discriminatory, legal reason.  You can follow the link, above, for a more detailed explanation of what that means.  However, your employer should notify you, in writing, of any changes to your pay or benefits package before you actually work any hours under the new "compensation" scheme.  I don't know what benefits you lost or what their "value" might be, but you could contact the Attorney General's Fair Labor Hotline (617-727-3465) for more information or to file a complaint.
